The Heartwarming Reunion of a Missing Chihuahua: Gizmo Returns Home After Nine Years
A Chihuahua named Gizmo, who went missing from his Las Vegas home in 2015, has been found alive after nearly a decade of separation from his beloved owner. The incredible reunion has sparked joy and relief for both Gizmo and his owner, Judith Monarrez.
Gizmo’s Journey: A Timeline of Separation
Gizmo, now 11 years old, was just two when he vanished after slipping through a faulty gate in his backyard. According to a report by ABC News, the years that followed were challenging for Monarrez, who continuously searched for her furry companion.
At the time of Gizmo’s disappearance, Monarrez was 28 years old, living with her parents. Now, she is 37, has moved into her own home, earned a master’s degree in English, and begun a career in higher education. Despite all the changes in her life, one thing remained constant: her dedication to finding Gizmo.
A Miracle Email: The Return of Gizmo
On July 17, Monarrez was sent an email that would change her life forever. The notification was generated when Gizmo’s microchip was scanned after he was found by a woman who brought him to a local veterinarian.
“I’m so glad I registered his microchip,” Monarrez expressed, overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the news of Gizmo’s return.
Reuniting with Gizmo: Joy Mixed with Bittersweet Reality
While the reunion is filled with joy, Monarrez has noted some bittersweet changes in Gizmo. His nine-year journey outdoors had left visible marks on him. He is now afraid of shadows, heights, and birds, and exhibits physical ailments, including a limp, severe eye infections, and missing teeth.
To help cover Gizmo’s veterinary expenses, Monarrez created a GoFundMe campaign, which has successfully raised nearly $9,000 to assist with Gizmo’s medical care.
Looking Ahead: Healing and Love
Despite the challenges ahead, Monarrez and her family are focused on addressing Gizmo’s health issues and showering him with the love they saved for all those years. Reflecting on their first interaction, Monarrez said, “Even though he looked so different, when I looked in his eyes, I knew immediately it was Gizmo. As soon as I said his name, he tilted his head and didn’t stop staring at me.”
This heartwarming story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of pet microchipping and the enduring bonds of love between pets and their owners. As Gizmo begins to adjust to life back home, Monarrez and her family are committed to providing him a safe and loving environment, proving that love and hope can truly prevail.
